Zimoma is a notes app for iPhone. This page says what it keeps, where, and who else handles it. If anything here is unclear, write to support@zimoma.com.
In short. Your notes are stored in your account on our server so they sync and can be shared. Photos and recordings stay on your iPhone. There are no ads and no tracking. AI features send only what you choose, when you tap, and can be switched off.
What is stored in your account
- Your account. Your email address, your name if you give one, and what is needed to sign you in. Sign-in is run for us by Clerk. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple passes on the email address you choose to share, which can be a private relay address.
- Your notes. The text, checklists, drawings, formatting, folders, tags and templates you create. They are stored on our server so they appear on every device you sign in to and can be shared with people you invite.
- Sharing. When you share a note or a space, the people in it can see its contents, your name and email address, and whether you are in the note at the moment.
- Settings. Preferences that follow your account, such as whether AI features are on.
What stays on your iPhone
- Photos, scans and recordings. The pictures and audio you attach are kept on your iPhone and are not uploaded to our server. A note’s record of them, such as the words of a voice note, syncs with the note.
- Connections between notes and ordinary search. Worked out on the device.
- Reminders. Scheduled on the device.
- Notes that have not synced yet. A note written offline is kept on the iPhone until it can be uploaded. If the app is deleted before that, the note is lost.
Voice
What you say is turned into text by Apple’s speech recognition: on your iPhone where it supports that, otherwise by Apple’s servers. Our server never receives the audio.
AI features
AI features are on when you first use the app and are controlled by one switch, Settings › AI features › Use AI features. While it is on, the following is sent to OpenAI, which processes it for us, only when you tap the feature:
- the words of a voice note or brain dump you have sorted, not the recording;
- the photo of a page you tap Read it on;
- text you pick for writing help or a summary;
- a question you put to Ask Zimoma, with the passages of your notes that match it. To find those passages, the text of your notes is sent to OpenAI to be indexed; the index is kept on our server and deleted when you turn Search notes with AI off.
Passwords and other secrets found in text are removed before it is sent. Nothing can be removed from a photo first. We ask OpenAI not to store these requests. OpenAI may keep them for a limited time to monitor for abuse, and says it does not use them to train its models. How AI uses your notes has the full list.
What Zimoma does not do
- No advertising.
- No analytics or tracking software from other companies in the app.
- No selling or renting of your information.
Who else handles your information
- Clerk
- Accounts and sign-in.
- Hostinger
- The server our service runs on, in India.
- OpenAI
- AI requests you make, as listed above.
- Apple
- Sign in with Apple, speech recognition, and payment for subscriptions.
- RevenueCat
- If you subscribe to Pro: whether your subscription is active. We never see your card details.
Our server also keeps ordinary request logs, such as IP address and time, for a short period to keep the service running and secure.
Keeping and deleting
- A note you delete moves to Recently deleted for 30 days and is then removed.
- Settings › Export gives you a copy of your notes at any time.
- Settings › Account › Delete account closes your account straight away. Your notes are then removed from our server within 30 days, and spaces you own are removed for everyone in them. A Pro subscription is not cancelled by this: cancel it in your Apple account.
Children
Zimoma is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly keep information about them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date above changes and the app says so.
