Zimoma or Craft?

Craft is a polished documents app with years behind it and apps on every platform. Zimoma is newer, made for the iPhone first, and still in beta. Here’s an honest look at both.

A long walk by the river, then finally booked the ryokan for Kyoto. Rhea says the garden room is the one.

The short answer

Which one suits you

Both are good apps. They’re good at different things, and the right one depends on how you work.

Choose Zimoma if…

  • You write mostly on your iPhone and want a small, focused app.
  • You’d like paper that looks like paper, with pens, highlighters, washi tape and stickers.
  • You want a share level for people who may comment but not edit, and another for people who may only read.
  • You want voice notes that come back written down, with the to-dos picked out.
  • You like a simple price: Pro is $2.99 a month or $24.99 a year.

Choose Craft if…

  • You need apps today on Mac, Windows, Android and the web, as well as iPhone and iPad.
  • You want a mature app: Craft first came out in 2020.
  • You publish a lot and want your own domain for published pages.
  • You clip pages from the web with a browser extension.
  • You’re moving from another app: Craft has importers for Apple Notes, Notion, Evernote and more.

Questions

Before you switch

Isn’t Zimoma a lot like Craft?

In places, yes. Both have documents made of blocks, tasks, daily notes, collections, whiteboards, sharing and publishing. Craft has been around since 2020 and runs on more platforms. Zimoma is newer, made for the iPhone first, and leans into paper, themes and quick capture.

Can I use Zimoma on my Mac, on Windows or in a browser?

Not yet. Zimoma is in beta on iPhone, and iPad is in the beta builds too. Apps for Mac, Windows and Android are being built, and there is no web app. If you need those today, Craft has them.

Can I bring my Craft documents over?

Yes, as Markdown. Export from Craft with Share › Export As › Markdown, then import the files in Zimoma with Settings › Import from Apple Notes › Import exported files, which takes any Markdown.

How much does Zimoma cost?

Free costs nothing and includes 20 AI actions a month and 250 MB of room. Pro is $2.99 a month or $24.99 a year, bought inside the app.

Who can see a published note?

Anyone with the link. Published notes are read-only, hidden from search engines by default, and can have a password or an expiry date. Stop sharing takes one down at once.
